Confessions of an AlmostGirlfriend Louise Rozett Books

Sophomore year does not go how Rose expected. At the beginning of Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend she's determined to find her place in High School society while staying out of other people's business. She's also trying to get a reign on her anger and channel it into something positive as her therapist suggested. Easier said than done to all of the above. Trouble has a way of finding Rose and sticking her right in the middle of some tough situations. She does try to be more mature in her decision making and reactions, but there are still moments when Rose is still that immature freshman from Angry Girl.

Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend continues with that slightly darker tone which the previous book ended on. However, instead of sex being a prominent topic, this time it's abuse. But once again, Rose is on the outside looking in. She learns that a couple of her classmates were abused by their father, and now one of them is being hit by her boyfriend. What is Rose suppose to do about this? Does she tell? Is it even her place to tell, just because she knows? Rose doesn't want to be known as the tattle-tale again, but she knows what's happening is wrong. It's a tough situation, and even at the age of 23, I'm not sure how I would handle it. Another major issue that Rose deals with is witnessing a hate crime and being the only one to step in. This is actually the catalyst to her wanting to keep her mouth shut about her classmates wrong doings.

Of course Jamie Forta plays a bigger role this time. His relationship with Rose is so frustrating! Why must Jamie be so cryptic and brooding all the time? Rose isn't even sure Jamie likes her despite some super steamy make out sessions. He always up and disappears when things start getting too much, and his communication skills suck! He does begin to open up, but then he runs, then comes back, then runs again. I'm sure Rose is getting whiplash from his indecision, but I think by the end of Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend, Rose realizes that it's his problem that he won't let her in, not hers.

I really enjoyed watching Rose try to find out who she is and what she's good at, even if it meant she had to lose people along the way. Again, I think these books touch on things that almost anyone can relate to even if their situation isn't exactly like Rose's. She doesn't want to be in the shadow of her more popular friends, and maybe she doesn't want to fit in at all. She's also still grieving her father, but not in a way that her mother approves of. There's also the strained relationship with her brother. It seems like a lot of subjects for one book, but I think it all comes together really well in Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend.

Confessions of an AlmostGirlfriend Louise Rozett Books Reviews

What a great series this is! Rose is a complex character that you can relate to whether you are still in high school or were in high school too many years ago to count. Drawn with depth, intelligence, and grace, Rozett pulls you into each of these characters lives and won't let you go. I highly recommend this series to anyone that enjoys great writing, great characters, and a great storyline.
My favorite part of getting lost in good stories is how you feel like you are in it. Louise Rozett does such a beautiful job creating a world, and characters you can't help but understand and root for. It's been many years since I was in high school, and it isn't a place I necessarily want to revisit, but returning through Rose's eyes and experience somehow allows me to better understand my younger self...
Great book. Can't wait to read the next one.
This is a fascinatin story that has issues that high school students face such as physical abuse by a parent or boyfriend, death of a parent and the grief that accompanies it and how people deal with them, homophobia and hazing, drug abuse and peer pressure, love and romance and pressure to have sex. I love the psat vocabulary heading each chapter , as well as the musical references throughout. The characters are colorful and interesting, likable and real. It is a great read and I can't wait for the next one.
Oh Rose, how I've missed you! Especially your attitude. I fell in love with Confessions of an Angry Girl last year and was really looking forward to this book. Although I prefer my MC's to be a little bit older than 15 years old, I immediately loved Rose and I felt this connection to her right away.

Rose is determined to learn from her past mistakes and to be a better person, the new Rose 2.0. Unfortunately, things start off to a bad start before she even begins her junior year. No matter how determined she is at doing the right things and staying out of trouble, Rose ends up getting caught in the middle of a hate crime and an abusive relationship. Is Rose ready to do the right thing or will she become a social pariah again?

What I love most about Rose and what I can relate to the most is her attitude. I was worried she wouldn't be the same Rose that I loved from book one, but she was even better! Example

-Tracy has had a lot of talks with me about my anti-cheerleader stance reminding me that not all cheerleaders are like Regina, citing herself and a bunch of other nice, smart girls on last year's team as examples. While I see her point, I still haven't managed to let go of the idea that, in general, cheerleaders suck.
I recognize that this viewpoint may be indicative of a character flaw on my part, and I'm okay with that.

I have so many of these quotes highlighted. Although it might seem that she is immature, she is only 15 and she has dealt with a lot of painful things. (Unfortunately, the same can't be said for me. I' 27 and I still act like Rose sometimes of the time) To her, the only way to deal with these things is to lash out. Although her attempt at being Rose 2.0 fails, she finally starts getting it that she doesn't have to change who she is to fit in. She can be different and she can be her own person and that's okay. I was glad when Rose finally started to get it and I felt so proud at her. I'm excited about her new-found discovery and I can't wait to see what Rose is up to next. (I'm assuming there will be another book. There BETTER be another book!)

There are so many things that I loved about this story. Rose's character development being the biggest one. Her relationship with her family was another big one. When Rose and her mom went to therapy sessions, the scenes went from funny moments to heartfelt and sad. When her brother joined them for therapy sessions, they were hard to read at times without feeling choked up. Although I was a much bigger fan of Jaime Forta this time around, I really hope he gets his act together soon! Although he continued being hot and cold with Rose, we got to learn more about him this time around that made it easier to understand his motives. BUT, my favorite aspect of this book was the therapy sessions with Caron and all the interactions Rose had with her...in her head. )

Confessions of an Angry Girl took me by surprise by how deep and emotional it was. I thought I was prepared for book 2 but I was wrong. Another hit for Louise Rozett!

Just a few of my favorite quotes from Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend
-I want to punch him. I'm actually considering it-even though my mom's therapist, Caron, told me I need to start curbing my violent instincts and redirecting them to a "positive place."

-So what? A voice in my head says. He's not your boyfriend.
He could be-you don't know that he's not, says another voice.
Don't be an idiot. He didn't want anything to do with you all summer. Forget him. You shouldn't even be here.
Why are you so hopeless all the time? It's lame.
As if two warring voices in my head weren't enough, Caron chimes in, telling me to ignore the noise and just be present.
I hate to admit it, but it's good advice.

-The nice thing to do would be to go look at it with my friends and congratulate them.
Do I feel like doing the nice thing today?
I'm focusing on the wrong issue, asking the wrong question. The question should be, am I going to do the right thing today? Do I even know what that is?

-Caron says I'm supposed to indulge my anger without trying to understand it.
Caron can go F herself.

-Caron is watching me closely, probably trying to decide whether to ask me me if I'm struggling with any violent impulses right now.
Yes, Caron, I am. I'm struggling with my desire to jump over your lovely glass coffee table in a single bound and throttle my mother on your cozy couch.
