The deep secrets – that restrict us and limit our lives – are at the heart of this first, engaging novel in the new Smoky Mountain series.
Vivian Delaney – in The Foster Girls – arrives in the quiet Wear’s Valley, on the backside of the Smoky Mountains, carrying a heavy load of hidden problems – and eager to find a quiet place to escape the recent troubles of her past. However, secrets are hard to keep, and right away Vivian encounters unexpected challenges with her landlord, Scott Jamison. From Vivian’s first meeting with Scott – at the end of a rifle barrel – Scott seems purposed to push past all Vivian’s defenses and to find a way into her heart.
Just as Vivian begins to trust Scott – and is able to share her secrets with him and new friends in the valley – love for a little foster girl, Sarah Taylor, challenges Vivian and Scott’s new relationship. When Sarah is lost in the mountains, the suspense and conflict build – with the lives of several characters caught tantalizingly in the balance.

Lin Stepp did a wonderful job in The Foster Girls mentioning specific places in the Smoky Mountains such as Dollywood, Sevierville, Wears Valley, Cades Cove, etc. However, her description of the mountains themselves was lacking. As beautiful as they are and as descriptive as they can be, this totally surprised me that they were not mentioned much. The story itself is a very good one--a love story building between two different people. One wants to keep secrets; the other is very open and expects everyone else to be. I did figure out who one of the main characters was prior to it being mentioned in the book, but that's not a new thing for me. I still enjoyed the story line and especially the representation of the Smoky Mountain attractions. I would highly recommend it as a good easy read. Looking forward to reading the remainder of Stepp's series about this beautiful area of the country.

The Foster Girls A Smoky Mountain Novel Book 1 edition by Lin Stepp Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

My family is preparing for a christmas trip to the smoky mountains and I am all about reading books that take place in a setting or season that I am in at the time....crazy, maybe, but anyway......I ordered the first 3 books on a whim....started the first one and couldn't put it down. It is an easy read, and mentions lots of specific places in the smoky mountain area....places we always visit, etc. so that was fun. the book is inspirational, a love story, and just a good easy read. It was actually like reading a Halmark Movie. sweet story plot. will plan to let my girls read them when they are a little older, beginning to date, I think.
couldn't put it down it was great
Loved this book! I loved the characters and the sense of being persons I could be friends with, given the chance. The story is clean and entertaining. I love Lin Stepp's writing and love picturing the Smoky Mountain area that I love so much. I highly recommend this book, or any book she writes.
The story draws you into the lives of Lyn Stepp's characters; they are interesting and complex. You can gain an understanding and appreciation of this Smoky Mountain region. This book sets up the background for her others novels.
I bought and read book 3 and loved it, but The Foster Girls is one book I would want my money back.
How anyone can give it a better review I have no idea.
Now my problem is do I want to buy book 2 or not, like I said I loved 3 have read book 6 liked it
but that book repeated alot but was ok. I agree with the others that rated this book a one star, should have read that first.
This is a delightful story with just the right amount of passion without being trashy. Warm with a reliance on God for guidance, this isn't a goody two shoes Christian novel. The characters are real with sometimes passions that almost overwhelm them. Still holding on to their morals while navigating their emotions is becoming a lost art and well represented here.
The first in the Foster Girls series is a heart-warming story of love, faith, and redemption. The characters of Vivian and Scott are expertly drawn, but what I found most compelling was the sense of place established by the author. From visual imagery to charming characters, I felt as if I were right at home! Set against the backdrop of my beloved Smoky Mountains, this story offered it all a unique set of characters, a wonderfully inviting setting, and a lovely and suspenseful story. Well done!
