Destined a novel of the Tarot Gail Cleare 9781461007760 Books
Destined by Gail CleaireWasn't sure I was going to like this book but loved the writing style of another of the author's books.
A bit out of my comfort zone as I know nothing about Tarot cards and the fortune tellers but enjoy reading and learning.
What I loved about this book was Emily who is trying to be strong and powerful walks away from a job where they want her to do things she really wasn't hired for. Bravo for just walking out the door.
Which leads her to more job interviews where she comes across a curio shop and is hired on sight. Henry and her seem to have a bond through visions and other events although they've never met.
She's now the manager and in charge of getting the rooms in shape so they can open the shop or rare and antique things to be sold. She goes above and beyond while meeting his other clients and associates.
Love that she is able to help others in need and works with others she doesn't get along with to benefit the shop. Love the festival of sorts as the whole community work together in that feat and many other things to help one another make a success of their businesses.
Like clash of some as they do come together. Especially love the discussions of different kinds of power and are able to implement them and that the discussions are so today concerns of climate changes.
There are so many the book follows, male love interests, shop owners and their families and the spirit world. Didn't care for sex scenes, seemed to be a bit rushed and not that deep of a relationship.
Love how each chapter starts out with a step or symbol and it's described in words that you can use in today's world although they may not have been in the original 1700's tarot card decks (the way I understand it).
Received this book from the author and this is my honest review.

Destined a novel of the Tarot Gail Cleare 9781461007760 Books Reviews
I'm familiar with tarot, so I bought this book to see how the author wove a story using the soul's path through the major arcana.
The characters are likeable. The family vibe of the neighborhood is quaint, if utopian-like.
I am spiritually minded person, so the main theme of this story appealed to me enough to keep reading. However, the liberal propaganda nearly had me deleting this book.
I don't mind being reminded of alternative energies, conservation and recycling, or climatic changes. I will go nuts if I hear mention of Al Gore, like he's a god.
All said, mostly unsaid, I would not recommend this book to political conservatives. I read this book until there were only a few pages left. After reading gushing accounts of Hillary Clinton (not a goddess), I lost whatever interest I had left in the story.
This book is listed in the paranormal romance section. It is not paranormal, and barely a romance.
First, Gail Cleare is a good writer. She writes descriptively and knows how to turn a phrase. The characters were well rounded and written in a way that made them interesting.
Now, what I thought of this book. I read and read, enjoying the author's writing style but the book never really got started. The book was disappointing. It lacked dramma entirely and romance was written in a steril hinting of a real relationship between characters. The sad part is, I kept reading, thinking that maybe something would happen to make the story come to life. I thought just maybe, there might be a chance a couple times to redeem a grocery list of "happenings" and turn this into a real book but it never happened.
Being a good story teller is more than just knowing how to list events in a character's life. The reader needs to be engaged and be part of the emotional journey not just sit back and watch someone spoon or have a random migraine.
This is my 1st book by the author. It won't be the last!! I was able escape into the story!
This is one of those light hearted romances where good champions one hundred percent of the time. The story centers around a shop in an area full of many different ethnic families--but they all love each other despite their differences and go out of their way to help each other--no crisis is too big for this group. Every chapter starts with an explanation of a tarot card and then, surprise, surprise the following chapter shows how this card reflects in real life. While it was a little "white bread" for me--a fun read, a good take to the beach kind of book that keeps your interest and makes you feel better about the world--if you want or need (as I did) to spend some time looking at life with rose tinted glasses I highly recommend this book.A good light read which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Gail, weaves a tarot card into each chapter in this lovely story of love, understanding and a spiritual path.
It is not about the occult as some may associate with tarot. Do you believe in a predestined spiritual path? Read this intriguing story that is interesting from the first page. I am thoroughly enjoying it so far. I highly recommend this book. Leaves me feeling hopeful and delighted.
I was wishing for a relaxing book and found this one. Very pleasant read. Opens your mind to a lot of subjects and encourages you to consider other opinions. I was disappointed that the bibliography mentioned was not in the kindle version. Although i didn't agree with everything, i highly recommend this book for many reasons. I'm now following this author and looking forward to more.
I bought and read this first in 2012. Recently early 2017, I found it in a list of potentially good reads. As I read the first chapter I remembered that I had read it before, but I was so enjoying it that I decided to read it again. It meant much more to me now, five years later, as my journey is much paralleled to Emily's. Besides enjoying the engaging writing that flows naturally and carried me effortlessly through the story, besides coming to care about every character as if they lived in my neighborhood and had become a true friend, I am now able to fully engage with the message of creation and my responsibility and gifts in that. I am very grateful to have read this book twice over these five years. I won't be surprised if I enjoy it again some time. Then maybe I'll find this review and add an edit note.
